Still Alive but Ungrateful
It takes five minutes
to brush your teeth, longer than that to complete your rituals in the
toilet and bathroom. Eating three meals
and sipping several cups of coffee will take more than an hour. Going online to check your emails, Facebook news
feed, Twitter feed, or visit websites for work or leisure will consume an hour or
more. Commuting will eat a significant
chunk of your time and work itself will eat a third or more of your day. Take away an hour or two for socializing after
work, and you’ll be crawling to bed at the end of another normal day.
Sleep consumes a third
of your day, less if you’re insomniac, more if you’re hypersomniac. As your eyes blink open to signal another
waking day, you jump out of bed and repeat your routine, forgetting to ask why
you have awakened when so many die in their sleep, forgetting to say the
shortest but sincerest thank you prayer that will be quicker than reading this
blog post.
