Nice Doogie

A Long-delayed New Year's Resolution

One of my New Year's resolution was to adapt the eye-for-an-eye policy preached in the Old Testament and reciprocate kindness with kindness and contempt with greater contempt. But as a Catholic who has attended Catholic schools all his life, I put my resolution on hold and opted for the more Christian virtue of forgiveness for the sake of keeping the peace.
But when the person you are dealing with does not practice this virtue and takes pleasure in hitting you, then, maybe it's time to give him a dose of his medicine (his community once had the dubious distinction of being the squatter capital of the Philippines, in short, "asal iskwater").
When you are kind and would turn the other cheek, you get treated like a doormat. But when you behave like a rabid pitbull, everybody is wary of you. So, I'd rather be known as a crazed pitbull than a doormat.
